Electric Vehicle Awareness Award

Awarded to Canadian non-governmental organizations (NGOs), charities, or community groups demonstrating outstanding leadership in the promotion or advancement of electric vehicle adoption in a given year.

NB Lung – Alyse Wilton (2023)

NB Lung has long recognized the link between clean air and better health. Since 2014, NB Lung has led and chaired the Electric Vehicle Advisory Group, educating New Brunswickers and advocating for cleaner transportation through its Drive Electric Atlantic initiative.

Under Drive Electric Atlantic, NB Lung encourages EV adoption across Atlantic Canada by raising awareness about EV benefits—from significantly lowering emissions like NO₂, SO₂, and particulate matter to reducing respiratory health risks. The program includes public education campaigns, surveys to understand regional attitudes toward EVs, and EV Roadshow events offering test drives and conversations with experts.

NB Lung also champions broader sustainability efforts—advocating for zero-emission school buses, fare‑free and accessible public transit, and policies to reduce diesel pollution that impacts lung health, especially in children.

By integrating EV promotion, public engagement, and health‑focused transport policy, NB Lung supports cleaner air, stronger communities, and a healthier future for all New Brunswickers.

Clean Energy Canada (2021)

Clean Energy Canada worked diligently to convince the federal and provincial levels of government to create the policy environment so that EVs will thrive. Through op eds, policy papers, and engaging government officials, this NGO has played an important role in moving the yardsticks such that EV policy has now become a central part of our national and provincial climate policy agendas.

Awarded to Canadian car dealerships excelling in the sale and promotion of new fully electric or plug-in hybrid electric cars powered entirely or in part by Canada’s clean and reliable electricity.

Fleet Zero – Naeem Farooqui (2023)

FleetZero Inc. is a Canadian-based advisory and implementation firm that makes fleet electrification seamless and effective. Serving public and private fleets across North America, FleetZero offers evidence-informed, turnkey solutions through five core areas—Advisory, Implementation, Infrastructure, Finance, and Tooling & Maintenance (GarageZero™)  .

Their team combines deep global fleet expertise with AI-enabled tools to guide organizations through electrification—from early-stage feasibility assessments to infrastructure planning, training, and ongoing operations.

KIA West (2021)

This dealership, based in Coquitlam BC, managed to have 9% of its total sales as EV sales. It achieved these great results by training 100% of their staff to market and sell EVS and having EVs on the lot 365 days a year – at least 50 at any given time.

SHIFT Electric Vehicles (2020)

SHIFT Electric Vehicles in Burlington, Ontario, was incorporated in 2010 with a focus on the acquisition and sale of luxury passenger vehicles. In 2013, the owner, Paul Repar, was exposed to Tesla at the Canadian International Auto Show and has never looked back since. Fast forward to today and SHIFT Electric Vehicles is fully ingrained in electric vehicle culture and is committed to building a green and emission-free future through its mission to be the leading provider of electric vehicles by offering the best selection, quality, education and support.

Campus Nissan in Victoria British Columbia is a locally owned and operated dealership that has been in the Graham family for over 35 years. Dick Graham, Dealer Principal since 1994 values family and community above all else. These values coupled with the fact that Dick still farms 40 acres on the Saanich Peninsula make environmental sustainability very important to the Campus Auto Group. Campus Nissan is the highest volume retail dealer of new Nissan Leaf in Canada. This success is attributable to Victoria’s progressive and environmentally conscious car buyers as well as Mr. Graham’s commitment to supporting the Leaf through a culture of community engagement and Electric Vehicle promotion.

Mike Brigham Used Electric Vehicle Dealership Award

Awarded to Canadian car dealerships excelling in the sale and promotion of used fully electric or plug-in hybrid electric cars that are powered entirely or in part by Canada’s clean and reliable electricity.

This award is delivered in honour of Mike Brigham, an environmental advocate and philanthropist supporting many different environmental causes, with a special focus on climate change. He believes strongly in the role EVs can play in decarbonizing transportation. He has generously supported Clean Air Partnership to fund a variety of initiatives in collaboration with Plug’n Drive including the Used EV and Scrappage incentive programs.

ALL EV (2021)

This used EV dealership sells exclusively EVs of all brands and puts a lot of effort into education. Every member of the team is an EV expert. They took advantage of social media as a way to reach new consumers and drive traffic to their website. They hold 10-15 EV events per year.

VÉ Simon André (2020)

VÉ Simon André is a family business located in Trois-Rivières, Québec. It started as an auto parts shop 40 years ago and, in 2014, shifted its focus to electric vehicles. Fast forward to today and VÉ Simon André is one of Canada’s few 100% electric dealerships. Every technician is highly trained in electric vehicle maintenance, they have developed a battery swapping module for the Nissan LEAF and have done extensive work converting old gas cars into electric.

Tom Mitchell Electric Vehicle Leadership Award

Awarded to Canadian electricity companies demonstrating outstanding leadership in the promotion or advancement of electric vehicle adoption.
This award is delivered in honour of Tom Mitchell, who served as the President and CEO of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) from 2009 to 2015. His legacy includes significant advancement of OPG’s clean and renewable energy projects. It was his leadership and vision that made Plug’n Drive possible.

ATCO (2021)

This utility was an early adopter, adding EVs into its fleet as well as hybrid bucket trucks as much as 5 years ago. In 2017, it partnered with Canadian Tire and Flo, a charger network, to install a DC fast charger on Alberta’s busiest highway and with the city of Edmonton to install on street level 2 chargers. In its most ambitious project to date, the Peaks to Prairies network, it created Alberta’s largest EV project for Alberta to date – installing 20 quick chargers as well as level 2 chargers along a corridor in southern Alberta. This project included a comprehensive outreach and educational campaign to go along with the charger installation to help the local communities understand the benefits of this network of chargers, including emissions reductions, tourism, and saving money.

Alectra (2020)

Alectra Utilities Inc. (Alectra) is the largest municipally-owned distribution company in Canada, serving over one million homes and businesses in the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area. It was established in 2017, following the amalgamation of five progressive electricity distributors under one common name and purpose. Alectra’s vision, from day one, has been to act as a trusted energy ally to its customers, to demonstrate leadership in the development, promotion and implementation of clean energy technology and to deliver innovative energy solutions to some of today’s most pressing energy challenges.

Ontario Power Generation (2019)

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) generates clean, safe, reliable, low-cost power for Ontario and is the province’s largest clean energy generator. As a member of the global EV100 initiative, OPG is leading the transition to electric transportation with a commitment to electrify its own fleet, where feasible, by 2030. Closing Ontario’s coal stations remains one of the world’s largest single actions to combat climate change. Now we’re ready to power the next big action – electric vehicles.

Hydro Québec (2017)

Among the largest electric utilities in Canada, Hydro-Québec generates, transmits and distributes electricity for the whole province of Québec. One of the top renewable energy producers in the world, the utility uses mainly renewable generating options, in particular large hydro, and supports the development of other technologies—such as wind energy and biomass. The Hydro-Québec customers benefit from the lowest electricity prices in North America. Involved in electric mobility for over 25 years, Hydro-Québec is a leader in the field with regards to advanced battery materials, electric drivetrain, early EV pilots and public charging infrastructure.

PowerStream (2016)

As the winner of the first annual Tom Mitchell award, it is appropriate that PowerStream was also the first utility in North America to commission a vehicle to a grid charging station, incorporating it into their office micro-grid alongside a solar carport. They have played an instrumental role in the development of the charging infrastructure, including the installation of two Level 3 fast charging stations that are completely open to the public. PowerStream is a community-owned energy company providing power and related services to more than 380,000 customers residing or owning a business in communities located immediately north of Toronto and in Central Ontario. PowerStream, jointly owned by the municipalities of Barrie, Markham and Vaughan, is committed to providing its customers with safe, reliable and efficient service. We achieve this goal by focusing on operational efficiencies and procedures in order to minimize overhead costs and maximize the use of company assets. In other words, PowerStream strives to be efficient and to provide optimum service, safely and reliably.
