For plug-in electric vehicles to reduce urban air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in time to meet emissions reduction goals, they must be deployed quickly and in large numbers. To achieve this large-scale market deployment, vehicles need support from policymakers and stakeholders. The effectiveness of these interventions is supported by research from members of the International Electric Vehicle Policy Council, a group of 25 experts from around the world committed to researching the transition to plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). Council members are researchers and academics working in universities, laboratories, institutes, and research centres that focus on gathering empirical evidence on electric vehicle adoption. The council brings together their research findings to develop policy recommendations supported by research data. The aim of this is to provide policymakers and any other stakeholders with reliable evidence-based policy recommendations from which they can make actionable decisions.
